Why are we fasting?

SNAP and WIC need stable funding now—without it, millions of Americans will go without the food and nutrition support they need to live. This means our neighbors, family members, brothers, and sisters in towns, cities, and neighborhoods across the United States. This means people you know and love.
Fasting is the practice of abstaining from food and drink for a period of time in pursuit of spiritual and religious purification. Fasting is practiced in some form among all world religions. Fasting has also been used across history as a form of protest against injustice.
In this spirit of faith and interfaith traditions, we pledge to fast until the federal government restores stable and continued funding to SNAP and WIC programs.

We encourage you to sign the pledge and commit to Fast for SNAP, demonstrating your solidarity with those who rely on these important food programs and appealing directly to the president and Congress to restore funding to SNAP and WIC.

How do I fast?

By signing the pledge to Fast for SNAP, you are committing to fast until the federal government restores stable and continued funding for SNAP and WIC.
Your manner of fasting may be defined by your faith tradition and practice. However, in the absence of a specific practice or tradition, we suggest fasting by not eating food or drink (excluding water) during daylight hours.

If you are medically or otherwise unable to fast with us, we invite you to join in spirit with the pledge and share this website with family, friends, and neighbors and encourage others to Fast for SNAP.
