What are
SNAP & WIC?

40 Million Americans rely on SNAP each year. 41% of all infants rely on WIC each month in the USA.

SNAP stands for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program and helps more than 40 million Americans each year. It is America’s largest anti-hunger program, helping people in every part of the United States—likely right in your own neighborhood or town.

WIC is the special supplemental nutrition program for women, infants, and children, and supports more than 6.5 million Americans each month, including support for an estimated 41% of all infants in the United States.

Due to the federal government shutdown, which began on October 1, 2025, SNAP and WIC have gone unfunded, meaning millions of Americans without the help they need. The federal government needs to restore that funding now so people do not starve or go hungry.

Why are
we fasting?

SNAP and WIC need stable funding now—without it, millions of Americans will go without the food and nutrition support they need to live. This includes people you know and love.

In the spirit of faith and interfaith traditions across human history, we pledge to fast until the federal government restores stable and continued funding to these critical programs.
